Patricia Bowie Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Callaghan Bowie passed from this life on June 18th, 2021 with her daughter Kim by her side.

Patricia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always placed other's needs before her own. She was a kind and generous mother, never saying an unkind word to or about anyone. Our mom always saw the good in everyone. Her beloved Aunt Barbara once described her “as a kind and delightful child.” She was truly an angel walking the Earth.

She was happiest when she was visiting with her family in N.O. and Monroe, LA. Pat loved working. For many years she worked as a secretary and an administrative assistant II. Our mother was particularly proud of working at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the nursing department. After 20 years of service, our Mom received a scholarship in her name. The Patricia C. Bowie Nursing Scholarship is awarded yearly to nursing students. Pat also worked at Lyon College in Batesville, AR for the dean of students. Our Mom often talked about how much she loved working with the students and faculty. Helping students was one of her passions and she missed it terribly when she retired.

Pat was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and received the “Secretary of the Year” award several times throughout her career. Our mother was a devout catholic and found great peace through her faith and devotion. Pat also had a wonderful sense of humor. She had that personality that gave her the ability to say funny things as well as see the funny side of life.

She was a good cook and loved caring for her family. She and my Dad made the most wonderful breakfasts for family and friends.

Our mother loved to shop, among her favorite stores were Dillards, J.C. Penny’s, and Gus Meyer. She also loved to travel and lived in numerous places throughout her life.

Patricia is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin Edward Bowie; a sister, Dorothy (Dot) Callaghan Katz, a brother, William (Willie) J. Callaghan; her mother, Catherine (Kate) Holland Callaghan; and her father, William J. Callaghan.

Patricia leaves behind her son, Kevin P. Bowie (Vaughanda) of Batesville, AR; her grandchildren, Patrick E. Bowie and Sean W. Bowie of Batesville, AR; and her daughter, Kimberly B. MacIntyre (Paul) of Houston, TX.

Patricia will be missed deeply by all that knew her. May she rest in peace and glory in the presence of angels. We are grateful for the wonderful care and compassion that our mother received from Arkansas Hospice, Amedisys, and the VA Vet Assistance Program. Please know that we greatly appreciate the gentle and kind care you gave to our mom.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Batesville, AR on June 25, 2021, at 11 AM. No graveside services will be held at this time.
