Florene "Flo" Collins, 75, formerly of Batesville, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord with her family by her side, July 5, 2016.
She was born on June 9, 1941, in Dowdy, Arkansas, and grew up in the Strawberry and Saffell area. While living in Wichita, Kansas, she married her husband, Dale, in 1968. They moved to Batesville in 1970 where she spent most of her adult years raising her family and serving the Lord. She and her husband owned the Rainbow Café and Dairy Bar for several years where Flo's outgoing personality shined to all that came through the doors. She later became the Avon lady that so many remember, making the honor of President's Club year after year. Flo enjoyed visiting with her Avon customers and often became close friends. She and her family attended the First Assembly of God in Batesville for over 35 years where she served in various capacities including the nursery, children's Sunday school classes, and helping with potlucks. During her last few years in Batesville, she attended Newark First AG. Everyone knew they could count on Flo to be there in their time of need, always putting others ahead of her own needs. Her favorite pastime was being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three sisters, Doris Sullivan and husband, W.O. "Sully" Sullivan, of Kansas City, Missouri; Lorena Parr, also of Kansas City, Missouri; Olene Huskey, of Saffell; a son, David Collins, of Batesville; a daughter, Wanda Peterson, of Batesville; a daughter, Tina Moore and husband, Chad Moore, of Cabot; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Flo was preceded in death by her father and mother, Elmer and Alie Matheny; three brothers, Oneal Matheny, Lowell Higginbottom, and Odell Matheny; and a son-in-law, Chuck Peterson.
