Thomas Oliver Rust, 75, of Gainesville, FL passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 in Gainesville, FL. He was born February 27, 1938 in Batesville to Henry W. and Paralee Rust. Tommy grew up in Batesville, and after graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he was a sheriff's deputy in Live Oak, FL. He then moved to Jacksonville, FL where he became a federal firefighter, the work he loved, working on Mayport Naval Base. He retired as a firefighter after fifteen years of service. He moved back to Batesville where he cared for his mother, Paralee. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He was an active member in the local American Legion. Survivors include his daughter, Theresa Rust Estok and her husband Douglas of Gainesville, FL and two grandchildren; Samuel and Molly also of Gainesville, FL. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Service of Batesville www.willisfs.com
