Obituary

Shirley Marie Montague, 86, passed away on April 4, 2023. She was born in Cord, Arkansas, on September 28, 1936, to F.V. and Marie Ward.

Shirley was a woman of wisdom and faith. She was a lifelong member of the Cord Baptist Church and the spiritual leader of her family. Shirley was also a caring and funny person and always had the best timing with her jokes. But most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, playing piano, playing sports in her younger years, watching Razorback football and basketball, and cooking wonderful meals for her friends and family. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those that loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack P. Montague; parents, F.V. Ward and Marie (Bennett) Ward; daughter, Laura Lynn Montague; and brother, Freddy Ward and Paul Ward. She is survived by her sons, Michael Joe Montague and Matthew Montague (Crystal); grandchildren, Lynnsey Baird (Marvin), Cody Montague, Ross Simpson, Madalene Montague, Garrett Montague, and Daniel Montague; great-grandchildren, Bennett Baird and Brooks Baird; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law.

A visitation will be held at Willis Funeral Service on Friday, April 7, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A graveside service, officiated by Jeff Childers, will be held at Hopewell Cemetery on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2 p.m.
