Rebecca Lucille "Tinte" Denton Hughes, 77, passed away surrounded by family on January 7, 2017 at White River Medical Center. She was born in Center, Arkansas on March 11, 1939 to Isom Odell and Lillie (Burrows) Denton. She graduated from Ash Flat High School in 1956. She and her husband moved to Batesville in 1962. She was a member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ, where she taught children's Bible school. She retired from the Batesville Chamber of Commerce after a 20 year career in 1988 and served as Executive Secretary for the Chamber. She was a member of a home demonstration club and she liked to watch animals. After retirement, she enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, quilting, gardening, painting, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She wrote and published a children's book "Charming Charlie" based on stories she told her children when they were young.
She was preceded in death by her parents Odell and Lillie Denton, and three brothers: Leeo Denton, Bernie Denton, and Bobbie Joe Denton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Bobby Gene Hughes of the home; daughter Becky Poe and her husband Richie of Harrison; son Bobby Don Hughes and his wife Jan of Evans, Georgia; daughter Angela Zelasko and her husband Jeff of Batesville; seven grandchildren: Ellie Poe Jayne and her husband Kevin, Emma Poe Gammon and her husband Taylor, Hillary Hughes Herring and her husband Andy, Justin Hughes, Amanda Zelasko Dickey and her husband Bryan, Stephen Chad Zelasko, and Christopher Zelasko and his wife Tricia; five great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Corbyn, Cameron, Cayden, and Lillie Mae to be born in February.
She also leaves behind three brothers: Billie Gene Denton and his wife Pat of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ernie Denton and his wife Shauneen of Chillicothe, Missouri, L.E. Maxie Denton of Ash Flat, Arkansas; and two sisters Dolline Gibson and her husband Waymon and Wanda Lou Bryan both of Tupelo, Mississippi.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10th from 10 AM - 11 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11 AM both at the Harrison Street Church of Christ with Bro. Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Independence County, the American Heart Association, or the Harrison Street Church of Christ.
The family would like to thank the staff at WRMC for their care and comfort during this difficult time. Especially the nursing staff on the 3rd floor Recoup unit, Dr. Barnes, Dr. Kuykendall, Michelle Lasiter, and Cyndi Jackson.
