John William Smith, 71, of Batesville passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Batesville. He was born July 17, 1942 in Cave City to John Newton Smith and Erma Turner Smith. John retired from Townsends of Arkansas and was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church of Cave City. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Zackary Smith and sister, Alla Mae Lance. Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith of the home; one son, T. John Smith of Batesville; one daughter, Teresa Sumner of Judsonia; one brother, Jerry Smith of Cave City; two sisters, Willa Mae Runion of Cave City and Emma Jean Lindsey of Cord Charlotte and seven grandchildren, Shaylen Sumner, Hannah Sumner, Jeffery Wilkes, Daniel Wilkes, Joel Smith, Noah Smith, and Jessica Pearson. Memorial services are 2:00 PM, Friday July 11, 2014 at the Willis Funeral Service Chapel. There will be a private burial at a later date.
