Doyle Kelly Thompson, 85, passed away on December 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 6, 1939, in Wise County, Virginia, to the late Kelly Thompson and Gladys (Blankenship) Thompson. Doyle enjoyed reading, birdwatching, gardening, and mowing the yard. He liked working with his honeybees, and canning, and making apple butter. Doyle loved being outside, especially sitting on his porch and making up stories. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.

Doyle is survived by his son, Darryl Thompson (Tracy); daughters, Phyllis Watts (Patrick), Paula Paulukonis (John), and Ann Nelson (Don); twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Thompson (Donna); and four sisters, Lou Brooks, Betty Godby, Connie Myers, and Trish Myers; and several other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vada Thompson; two brothers, Bob Thompson and Carlos Thompson; three sisters, Dorothy Pole, Bonnie Homer, and Janie Thompson; son, Roy Dale Thompson; daughter, Denise Gehman; grandson, Christopher Canard; and great-grandson, Zachary Corter.
