Obituary

Charles Mathew Quilty, 62, of Saffell, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Charles was born on April 22, 1964, in Charleston, SC, to the late Joseph Charles Quilty, and Joan Munger. He was of the Christian faith; one of Charles’ favorite sayings was “God’s still on His throne!” Charles was proud to be a graduate of Wolverine High School in Wolverine, MI, Class of 1982! Charles served his country honorably in the United States Navy. As a submariner on the U.S.S. Hawkbill666, he spent over 100 days under the polar ice caps and recorded over 3 complete years of sea service. Charles was a true patriot and was extremely proud of being a veteran of the United States military.

Charles had a heart as big as all outdoors, he never could turn away an animal that needed someone (he also could never tell his wife or daughter no to bringing another one home). Charles also had many hobbies. He was a very talented woodworker. He enjoyed making birdhouses and furniture but could make or fix just about anything that was brought his way. He enjoyed cooking, especially canning. Charles took pride in being the only one that could use his mother in laws pressure canners. But more than any hobby or career, Charles was most passionate about his family. He loved being a father and family man. He was a loving husband to his wife, Tina, for more than 22 years. Nothing meant more to him than his family.

Charles will be remembered for many things: his intelligence, his terrible dad jokes, his service to our country, his wonderful sense of humor, and his servant’s heart, because he was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends.

Charles is preceded in death by both of his parents and his grandmother, Violet Munger. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Tina (Fears) Quilty; his son, Shawn Quilty (China); his daughter, Shilo Quilty (Christopher); his sister, Cheryl Davies (John); his two grandchildren, Wyatt Quilty and Waylon Quilty; and many extended family members and friends.
